Ged Preperation

Q. My colleagues hardly ever spit on me, but I guess I'm avoiding the real world. But your logic doesn't continue to the obvious. Why couldn't parents simply abuse their children at home as a more frugal way, "unfortunately", to make them "endure...'bad' things" in order to "teach" them how to "deal" with the "real"?

A. Something which I snipped about how the unpleasantness of government school is preperation for the unpleasantness of life The presumption is that we who keep our children away from this massive concentration of unpleasantness are sheltering them inside a bubble of peace and love and turning them into wimps. Perhaps some homeschoolers do that, but we simply felt that a hostile environment was not conducive to learning, and separated the toughening process from scholastic education. At 17 our son has no problem dealing with drug pushers (he's a _very_ carefull shopper) or bullies. Although he had never attended school until starting on his GED, he did attend teen dances at a nearby Catholic high school. One evening he came home early and got an icepack out of the freezer. It seems some bully had chosen my son to pick a fight with while his friends looked on. Micheal hit the bully _one_ time with everything he had ( he benchpresses 220) and then stepped back. The bully's friends helped/dragged him away. When we where his age and attending high school in Chicago, in the late 60's violence was already a distraction. I got my ribs broken for reported someone who robbed me; in my wife's graduating class 4 of the 8 deaths their senior year were shootings.
